La cantina della Vernaccia (the wine growers’ cooperative of Vernaccia) is located in the area of Sinis, a place surrounded by beautiful marshlands , tilled lands, luxuriant vegetation, bordered by shores and rocked shaped by winds.

The national and international increase in value of Vernaccia di Oristano is certainly derived from Cantina della Vernaccia established in 1953. Through its establishment, the artisan production – unable to preserve the quality of the product and its organoleptic  properties – came to be replaced by a production where the traditional methods is flanked to the use of leading systems and techniques. Essential for the acquisition of new markets.

The cooperative, placed in the district of Oristano, produces not only Vernaccia D.O.C. Riserva, but also other varieties of D.O.C  wines, like Vermentino di Sardegna, Cannonau di Sardegna, Monica di Sardegna, and the I.G.T.  (Regional Geographic Indication) wines Nieddera and Terresinis, the lattest produced through fermentation of Vernaccia  vine in barriques.

VINE NIEDDERA

Characteristics  and Place of origin

Nieddera is a vine considered to be local and common just in the low part of Tirso Valley, among the lands of Oristano, Cabras and Nurachi. Grown as short plant and with a low productivity, it produces intense purple must, highly tannic: these features make it perfect to be cut and unforgettable,  as far its typicality and unicity goes. Cantina Sociale della Vernaccia (Wine Growers' Cooperative of Vernaccia)is one of the few to preserve this traditional product through the production of Montiprama IGT Valle del Tirso Red Nieddera, intense ruby-red wine, with purplish highlights and intense scents of fresh red fruit – cherries and blackberry – balsamic and spicy notes. It tastes dry and warm, fresh, full-bodied and tannic: persistent in his aroma.
