Asphodel is a very common plant in Sardinia. Its unique flower dominates the Sardinian countryside every Spring and the bees’ industriousness allows to have a rare straw yellow honey.
The asphodel honey is one of the most typical honeys in Sardinia, with a clear colour almost uncoloured and it is produced in March-April from the flowers of Asphodelus species, a wild plant in plots of land uncultivated or reserved for grazing. As well as the honey obtained from the flower, from the plant are built artistic containers as precious handcrafted baskets. The asphodel flower is often inserted as drawing in weaving, pottery and marquetry.
The crystallization of honey is a natural process that indicates genuine product.
If you like the liquid honey melt it in a bain-marie without exceeding 40º.
The company "Albee" owns an apiary located in San Gregorio, a pristine area of Sardinia, at the bottom of the mountain Sette Fratelli, in the middle of a cork oak forest, rich in strawberry trees and myrtle, as well as all the essences of the Mediterranean scrubland such as Rock Rose, Wild Lavender and Heather.
Thanks to the presence of this vegetation and to the consequent blooms, it is able to produce a very wide variety of honeys as in the spring the Asphodel or wild Mediterranean flower one, and at the beginning of the summer the Eucalyptus honey and in autumn the famous Bitter Strawberry Tree honey.
